I'm having a hard time making a decision to goto Expressions, I would like to get some words of wisdom, or encouragement from those of you that might be attending Expressions.

Re: Need Encouragement
Mon, March 1, 2004 - 9:25 PMMy long term goal would to become a producer. Short term would be doing something in Sound Engineering and developing my sound. I recently checked out Full Sail, which seems to be a little cheaper, but located in Florida.... are there any other schools? -

Tue, March 2, 2004 - 2:53 PMstateside i don't think there is much else. europe has some schools i believe (england)
lemme ask you this...when you say producer, do you mean it in the classic sense or in the modern 'electronic music producer' sense. if you're looking to go somewhere to learn how to use synths/samplers and write music i'd say its not the best place for you, whereas if you're looking to learn how big studios work, engineer on large desks and become a producer in the 'classic' sense i'd say its a great place for ya. -

Re: Need Encouragement
Tue, March 2, 2004 - 4:43 PMI agree. I came to school here to learn electronic music production, and only right now are they starting to offer relevant courses. There are synthesis courses at real colleges that would have served me better. However, if you want a real career in audio, this place is a must.

Re: Need Encouragement
Sun, March 7, 2004 - 10:47 AMI'm in the DVM program, and I'm having a blast so far. And I'm still in the GE program. Some of the GE classes are a joke, but everything I've heard about the school and the SA program has been great.
One downside for you, is you probably would have to forgo that little thing in the desert for a few years. Sound students get stuck with the wicked crazy lab hours.
Last year was my blowout year for BM, and I'm HOPING I can make it for the weekend this year.

Re: Need Encouragement
Thu, April 21, 2005 - 12:46 PMchangened my life man. no other school that teaches in this style. i am a graduate of class 19 in audio and now i have 2 recording studios. one here in sf and the other in london. went to a previous school for audio and got nothing even close to what i got out of ex'pression. my recomendation is that if you are truly commited to your chosen carrer then go to ex'pression. if not 100% dedicated then don't go. this school is not for the faint of heart. check my site www.counterw8.com all contact is on the site if you have any questions. hope this helped and good luck! -

Fri, April 22, 2005 - 1:34 PMHi Mishka, I've seen you post in the Vulcan tribe, I live in #51, if you're still around maybe we could chat about it? The main thing that's holding me back at the moment is the cost, and the fact that it doesn't look like a school that is geared towards people that have to work to pay the bills..... grrrr -

Re: Need Encouragement
Fri, April 22, 2005 - 4:21 PMit's true that it's not really the place to be if you can't throw yourself at the school 200%, but it's also a bit easier than it used to be.....they've been making some changes to the program in order to accommodate the accreditation process. It used to be that EVERY month, you'd be taking two classes five days a week. Now, some months it's one class for two days, some one for three, others it's two for five days, and I even had one month of two classes for four days (two each)
My (graduating) class is the first to be on this new schedule. So, it'd be easier to schedule a part time job around school, but the tricky thing is that the job would need to be very flexible and understanding about the hours, it's often hard to predict exactly what your schedule will be like for the next five week term, more than a few weeks before it started. For instance, next month my class has the following schedule MWF 7pm-1:30am and TTh 12noon-8pm, there's also a single saturday meeting for one of those, and another few days when the schedule is changed up for other reasons too. This schedule starts on Tuesday, but didn't get it confirmed until this past Monday, prior to that confirmation it appeared that it would be 4pm-midnight M-F, while word on the street was that the MWF class would actually be 7-1:30 since thats what it almost always is, (to accommodate the instructor's work schedule)
And of course, the sound prog (which is what you're looking at right?) is even more complicated schedule wise cause it's not uncommon for the lecture to be during one part of the day, and the lab to be several hours later.
It is, however a good school, and I think really worth it, every month I am amazed at how much I'm able to learn in the compressed fast paced month.
Have you been to an open house yet? if you make plans to go to one, I'd be happy to meet up with you and chat about it more if you'd like.
Good luck!
just now recovering from the week of no sleep for final class projects....

Re: Need Encouragement
Mon, April 25, 2005 - 7:24 PMHey Jason, I'll talk to you about it.
I'll look around for you sometime.
THere are a few people in the building
that went or are going to Expression.
It's tough to work and go to this school.
Better if you can freelance.
